Bilbo, Gandalf and The One Ring .... (by Alex)

I don't want to write a lot.... it's unnecessary I think.
just that: in May 2012,  Alex Gussev send me some figures that he had sculpt.... and even if the painting work was almost finished since 5 months, I can't finish because I was afraid that they look ugly! Maybe they are .... but I gave to those "little soldiers" (15 mm for Bilbo!) all my heart.
I hope that Alex will be enough satisfied (I know that he is a really very very nice man!).
(sorry for the ugly Bilbo's legs: they were broken and the gluing was not very good....)
just remember that:
They are the first Gandalf and Bilbo in 1/72 scale !!!!!!!!!

    1. Why not?
Tolkien describe him in the beginning of the book and write that he has a blue hat, a grey mantle and black boots.
      details=Alex work !

  3. Never call your work ugly Pascal, never. These are unique sculpts and you've done a fine job of painting them. Your love for the subject matter shows. His rendition of Bilbo is particularly good.

  6. I like it! One nice thing that is happening is this: I begin to distinguish the author of the paintings without knowing. As in this case. Bravo Sam, thank you for being one of my (unwitting) teachers.

you're a painter of Alex figures and I'm sure that you could understand what was my trouble when I've painted them!
Thanks for the link to V.S. blog!!
I've visited it many time but never added in my Blogs-Roll; that's done!

and yes Gandalf with the blue Hat, it's strange but it's the good information! (even I'm not always well documented!)
but it's at the beginning of The Hobbit: maybe after his hat is grey.... °-°

  13. Bilbo is a rather ugly figure :) Not the painting, but the figure itself, but I do like the Gandalf, nice job, Samwise!

    1. My friend, Bilbo is like each one imagine him!
Sometimes, he could be irritating,annoying... I think that it's one of this moment.. like I said just upon (in french!): he shows a proud face, almost arrogant: that's the Ring-side, I suppose...

    2. do they also have Bard and Thranduil's figures, I love those two characters! I always prefer Elves to Hobbits :)

    3. That's good now for Bard and Thranduil yet!
(even if Bard is not an Elve!)
But I don't think that you will see them painted before a long time: I don't paint quickly ...
