NAPPIES !!!!!!!! ( Zvezda "French Line Infantry" )

Something I've never thought that I could do : paint Napoleonic figures !
But, Jan from Benno's figures Forum, has started a big project with a lot of other members of the forum : doing a diorama with one figure of all the regiments present at the Battle of Waterloo:
"The “Bennos Figures Forum Famous Waterloo Project” (BFFFWP)" (forum link : here )
So he asked me if I wanted to take part and I've accepted !
Like I'm French, I've chosen a French figure, but those which were interesting (for me!) were not easy to find (or with very expensive Postage costs.. ), so I've bought the small set :
Zvezda "Art of tactic" - Napoleonic French Line Infantry.
What I can say about this set is that it's NOT a good set ! poorly sculpted and difficult to paint!
It was a painful painting work : I'm happy that they are finished   !
Even if I've only 1 figure to send to Jan, I've painted 5, so he will choose the one he want ....
I think that's the first and last time I paint Nappies!

NAPPY EASTER !!!!

  2. Well Zvezda lost me as a good paying customer because of these 5 figure suicide sets that they were determined to produce, and before this act on their part,i always bought in bulk their new Napoleonic Sets. However,Sam Wise thanks for your short review on this set of figures.Your painted figures are fine for your first and last stab at painting figures from this period, and it must be remembered that taking part in the project was no way shape or form part of a competition. If it had been then my simple finger painting would have not been included. A tiny colour wash on the faces might improve the look of these tiny fellows, but of course this is only my opinion, and should not be seen as a reflection on your painting skills. Sad to say we all struggle at times painting other figures outside our comfit zone. My comments made with the best of intentions. Beano Boy

    1. Thanks Paul ! In fact, I've nothing against Zvezda, it's just that those (expensive) figures are only done for gaming.
I would like to have another choice...
I know for the wash on the faces but , I've decided that they were finished so I've stopped ! (and one of the figure doesn't have any face ! )
      Greetings !

  3. Fusiliers, 3eme? The other Problem with them, apart from sculpting is the uniformity of the uniforms, especially if they are too be used for 1815, few French infantry were wearing gaiters in 1815, or wearing trousers /Overalls over them. Still you did a good paintjob on a subject which is not your usual one.

    1. thanks Paul. For the regiment, it's not clear regarding the figures: "line infantry" ? "light infantry" ? Fusiliers ? and not sure that it's the good uniform for Waterloo: you're right for the gaiters....
Right too for the 3ème (orange ) ! You are the winner !

  4. It's worth pointing out that these sets from Zvezda are intended for what has proved in Russia to be a successful line of boardgames, not for toy soldiering, figure collecting or traditional wargaming. I get the impression Zvezda are switching to these more nowadays as it's where the money lies for them...

    1. Money could be a good reason if a part is used to release some good "traditional" plastic figures.
I had not a great choice for the project....

  8. Dont be so hard on yourself or Zvezda, youve done a great job and so have Zvezda in bringing out so many superb sets...ok so this set isn't perfect but considering Zvezda's output you can forgive them the occassional bad day at the office.

      Nothing again Zvezda !
I've done what I can to paint those figures which are out of my zone of comfort.
And maybe it was a bad day at the office, but for sure it was a good for their Bank account !

    1. Thanks Peter !
when I do such a work, I'm not sure that I've any talent ! it's very frustrating: choose the colours for a figure is fun for me, and painting Nappies doesn't give me that !
But in the other hand, I'm happy to take part in this project !

      (I don't know if I will paint Nappies again .... except if I find a "good" reason ....) ;)

  10. Hi Sam,just an odd thought, yes FiddleWood Gnomes do tend to have so many of them. It concerns your Pirates, which I suppose are Napoleonics anyway. Lots of the Hat Industries ,uniformed models would fit in Horn Blower Style quite comfy like with them. Nice of you to visit my little Blog.So thank you Pascal. BB
