MITHRIL vs GW, "The Hobbit" and some more....

Alcidas on my last post about the Hobbit: "Beorn"
asked me if the MITHRIL and the GW figures are in the same size.
I've done a small comparison between some of them:

Sam (Mithril) Farmer Maggot (GW) Aragorn (GW)

Frodo (GW) and Bilbo (Mithril)

GW: Gimli (dwarf) Frodo (Hobbit) Aragorn (Human)

Gimli (GW) Thorin (Mithril)

Gandalf: Mithril and GW
and just for fun: Beorn and Thranduil (Mithril)
What I could say is that some figures seems to be compatible (except maybe the style of each one):
Gandalf
Dwarves
Humans and Elves
but the Hobbits are not! the GW are too large and don't respect the "real" size  of a Hobbit (half-man)
This afternoon I've seen a movie called : "The Hobbit" , it's a kind of prequel of the LoTR

Oh! speaking about Hobbits: this afternoon I've seen a movie called : "The Hobbit" , it's a kind of prequel of the LoTR....

At last, I want to make  a Great Hello to the 100th member of my little blog:
Sébastien aka "speedblue3",
the Séverine's Husband who paints LoTR figures and does so beautiful dioramas:
They don't have still a blog, but they will do one very soon!

(voir ici:
"A Mithril meeting in a Tolkien's World"

( I don't know if you have seen it, but my next post will be
 "Bilbo" (MITHRIL)
then you will see: Gollum (GW), Elrond (Mithril), Galadriel(MITHRIL), Thorin (Mithril), the Master of Laketown (Mithril) and maybe some others, why not?

That's all folks!

  1. It's odd how some of the figures are almost exactly the same size, while others are much different. Too different to mix them in a game I think.

    Congrats on the 100th member!

    1. I agree with you Anne! but GW makes figures from the movies and for wargames, MITHRIL makes figures from the books and more accurate! They are not good for wargames, I think.

  2. the scale of GW is a bit odd... hobbits are to large and yet the dwarves are correct. dwarves are taller than hobbits however GW seems to make them shorter... or was it the other way around? I always though dwarves were taller

    1. I'm ok Gowan! GW is not very interesting in some points, even if I like some of their figures!

  5. Very good info for those starting to buy these figures!
This way one can plan which figures to buy!
The few I have are all from GW, I think. I should get some time for them...

  6. Thanks for the comparisons. Personally, my subjective opinion is that I don't like figures whose size varies more than 1mm. Looking forward to more of your fine painting and vignettes this year, Sam.

    1. Thanks Jay!
the scales are always different: it's very difficult (even in 1/72!) to mix different manufacturers.
I hope that I will do better than last year, my friend!
